The Sufferer in this song is actively suicidal and reaches out to someone he's abandoned/left a considerable time ago (possible due to him mental state). I am also a sucker for a song with a catchy chorus and good beat.

Of coarse, I love all rise against albums, the sufferer and the witness being my favorite, I just thought siren song deserved far more then its getting. So recently someone posted about punk coming back and it made me upset (lol) because punk has never left. This, swing life away, paper wings, tip the scales, and dancing for rain are stand outs for me, the rest from the album are also great. From midtempo singalongs like “Ready To Fall” and “Under The Knife” to the frenetic “Bricks” and “Drones” (guaranteed to start circle pits wherever played), Sufferer delivers blow after blow, polished to perfection by producer Bill Stevenson. If they all did, these would be higher up. I wonder where he has given the definition of aesthetic principles. So when you put on The Sufferer & The Witness and hear galloping drumbeats, the powerful tenor of frontman Tim McIlrath, a sprinkling of gang vocals and a severe case of the catchy-chorus flu, you could write it off as “more of the same” for the band, or you could realize that no one plays melodic punk better than Rise Against in 2006. Though art is a human right protected by Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Dawes puts forth the argument that they are centered on aesthetic principles. At this point in their career, Chicago quartet Rise Against are, by all accounts, a well-oiled punk-rock machine.
